About.

Hey, friend!

Hey, friend! I’m Jennifer Safrey and—I still get a thrill every time I say this!—I’m an author. I write contemporary romance, and I also write novels that feature modern, feminist versions of characters we loved from fairy stories.

I’ve written four novels for Silhouette Special Edition (now Harlequin Special Edition)—all featuring smart, sassy, accomplished heroines and heroes you love to love. Themes in my romance novels have included all my faves: friends-to-lovers, marriage of convenience, urban settings, and more. In October 2023, InkSpell Publishing will release my newest romance novel, a rivals-to-enemies sports story with a “seasoned” hero and heroine (he’s 38, she’s 45!). I’ve also written one fantasy novel, "Tooth and Nail" (Skyhorse Publishing), about a tough boxer in Washington DC who discovers she is a half faerie—and not just any kind of faerie; these fae collect teeth, and they need her help to stop a threat. I recently completed a women’s fiction novel about your favorite fairy-tale princesses, and what happens when they hit middle age. I’ll keep you updated on its progress.

I’ve been a constant reader, from age 2; I could read before I was potty trained, so my Mom used to sit me on the toilet with a book!

As an adult, I read all kinds of fiction, but in my early twenties I read romance almost exclusively. During that time, I was a copy editor at The Boston Herald. I worked with brilliant people in the newsroom and did important work, but I was bombarded daily with terrible news about terrible things. To decompress, I read for hours when I got home (usually around 2 a.m.).

Eventually, I began writing romance, hoping to provide happy endings for readers experiencing stress in their own lives. My readers have said that my books are full of hope, have funny and witty dialogue, are fast-paced, and feature characters that feel like real people. I write stories with a lot of emotion and a lot of heart.

When I’m not reading and writing, I keep myself occupied. I’m a freelance developmental editor, copy editor, and proofreader. I taught yoga and meditation for more than a decade at Emerald Yoga Studio in Pembroke, Mass., and I still love teaching and helping people feel happy in their bodies and see how fun moving those bodies can be.

My home is just south of Boston, and I live with the love of my life, Teddy, and our two lovable but definitely weird cats.

About Kimura:

thumbnail_IMG_2209.jpg

Kimura is our goofy, handsome tuxedo cat—and he’s got a ton of personality. He would be in your lap 45 seconds after he meets you. He’s—well, motivated by food; he just loves to eat. When either Teddy or I leave the house, Kimura starts to whine and he throws socks at the door, which we find when we return. Kimura is very vocal and chats to us constantly. And if a bug gets in the house, I never worry because Kimura is a warrior; he will take it down inside of five minutes and eat it.

About Potus:

thumbnail_IMG_2453.jpg

Potus is a gentle, sweet soul of a cat. He’s a long-haired gray tiger. He loves to sleep in warm places: like next to the space heater or on top of electronics. In fact, he loves sleeping so much that I have to actually wake him up in the morning and nudge him toward his food bowl. He likes to be in the same room as us but prefers some space—snuggling is not his favorite thing. But if Potus sees a bug in the house before his brother does, he will watch it quietly, or maybe touch it with a soft paw. Kimura may be a warrior, but Potus is a poet.
